Fujifilm has announced a major firmware update for its GFX 100 medium format camera will be arriving in June 2021. Firmware version 4.00 for the Fujifilm GFX 100 mirrorless camera will improve autofocus performance, update image stabilization components, add Fujifilm’s ‘Nostalgic Neg’ film simulation and more. The first major improvement is to the autofocus system. Fujifilm says firmware version 4.00 will boost ‘AF speed and Face/Eye-detection performance, enhancing AF accuracy even in portrait photography that involves subject movements.’ Subject tracking performance will also been improved. Fujifilm has also added ‘coordinated control’ of the GFX 100’s in-body image stabilization (IBIS) when used in conjunction with a lens’ optical image stabilization (OIS). With the 4.00 firmware update ‘Image stabilization is applied with optimum correction based on the two mechanisms’ acceleration, frequency detected by gyro sensors and the amount of camera shakes to minimize motion blur even when shooting handheld.’ Fujifilm’s ‘Nostalgic Neg’ Film Simulation will also be added to the GFX 100 in the version 4.00 update, alongside the following list of smaller fixes and improvements: The level of “clarity” can be set in the range from -5 to +5.
